The Australian Working Holiday Visa Extension (2nd year) is available to people who can evidence that they have completed a total three months (88 days to be exact) of specified work in regional Australia while on their first Working Holiday visa. This will entitle you to an additional 12 months on your working holiday visa which you can use to extend your existing working holiday visa or use at any point in the future before you turn 31 years old

This may include fruit picking, harvest work or construction work. Regional Australia is defined by specific postcodes. You should check the postcode list before starting specified work to ensure it is in an eligible area.

Eligibility

There are just a few conditions that you need to meet with if you plan to secure a Second Working Holiday visa:

  • Be aged between 18 and 30 inclusive when you apply for and use this visa;
  • Show evidence that you have completed 88 days of specified work in regional Australia while on your first Working Holiday visa;
  • If you apply in Australia, you must be in Australia when the visa is granted. If you apply outside Australia, you must be outside Australia when the visa is granted;
  • Cannot travel with dependent children;
  • Be of good health and of good character;
  • Have sufficient enough funds to cover your initial stay in Australia (AUD 5,000) and be able to buy a return or onward ticket;
  • Hold a passport from an eligible country (see list below) for the duration of your stay in Australia.

Eligible countries to apply for a Working Holiday Visa to Australia are:

Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Malta, Norway, Republic of Cyprus, Republic of Ireland, Republic of Korea, Sweden, Taiwan, The Netherlands.

Specified work - is deemed to be work undertaken as an employee of a primary producer.

  • Plant and animal cultivation
  • Fishing and pearling
  • Tree farming and felling
  • Mining
  • Construction

Regional Australia - Any area outside of Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong, NSW Central Coast, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Perth, Melbourne or the ACT. Regional Australia is defined by specific postcodes. You should check the postcode list before starting specified work to ensure it is in an eligible area.

Requirements & Entitlements

  • You have an additional 12 months to live and work in Australia once your application for a second Working Holiday visa have been applied for and approved.
  • You may use this extra 12 months immediately after your initial working holiday visa expires thus allowing you to be in Australia for a 24 month period. Alternatively, you can leave Australia after your first Working Holiday visa and return at some point before you turn 31 on your second Working Holiday visa for an additional 12 months.
  • Once activated, you can remain in Australia for up to 12 months on your Australian Working Holiday visa. If you submit another visa application during this time, you may stay longer on your new visa.
  • You may work with the same employer in Australia for up to 6 months on your working holiday visa.
  • The visa allows you multiple entry to travel in and out of Australia as often as you wish during your 12 months.
  • You are permitted to study in Australia for a period of up to 4 months on a working holiday visa.
  • You can stay longer in Australia if you apply for another visa (including sponsorship, student, residency visas) if you meet the requirements and apply in time.
